Imagine that you are in the middle of unlimited chirping, colorful feathers, rhythmic singing along with the background of colorful scenery. How is it? Nice? Yes, it is really interesting to watch and see. I just want to open up my real-time experiences while exploring the famous Indian regions of migratory birds.
My in-depth love towards my studies in the genre of Zoology helped me to explore many places stocked with various types of migrating birds. During my studies, I almost covered the most active spots and lively regions of this interesting activity. The core point is that each location seems to be very different from one another and here is the account of some first-hand experiences.
1) Chilka Lake – the Paradise for Bird Lovers
It is the most unique spot in India, especially in the winter season. Chilka Lake offers spectacular views of avifauna along with a variety of flora and fauna. The migrating birds may have different purposes; most of them visit India for nesting and breeding. The most common sight is that of the Flamingos and they are seen migrating within the country itself.
In the peak season, this place is beautified with thousand varieties of hues and tints. During the winter season, you can see different types of migrating birds for nesting including Flamingos, Pelicans and Golden Plovers. Also, birds from Siberia, Iran, and Asia seem to be here during the winter and summer seasons. Moreover, this place is better known for the splendid sunset and sunrise views.
2) Birdlife at Thattekad bird sanctuary, Kerala
This avian life paradise was introduced by world-famous ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. This is the richest bird habitat along with a wide variety of green life in peninsular India. More than a bird watching center, a lot of other activities await the travelers for those who love to explore the wildlife magic.
During the months between November and February, a number of birds from the Himalayas and from the outside of India come here to meet their needs. Visit here and get to know about the migratory birds in Kerala especially the cuckoo birds. And also you will be familiarised with some wildlife adventures. Definitely, a visit to this place will be a treat to your five senses.
3) Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary, Gujarat
During winter as well as the spring seasons, Nalsarovar becomes more colorful with a wide variety of birds. The surroundings of the lake are filled with the echoes of rhythmic chirping and bird songs. Nalsarovar is a wetland and this speciality is the main attraction of this landscape.
Apart from being a colorful bird sanctuary, this place is famous for its natural wonders also. The most perfect time to visit this destination is from October to March and try to avoid a visit during the Summer season.
4) Salim Ali Bird sanctuary, Goa
In the middle of thick mangrove habitat, you can see a number of migratory birds from different parts of the world. This bird sanctuary is named after Salim Ali, one of the famous Indian ornithologist. Usually, you can see a variety of birds and the most common one is the Striated Herons and the Western Reef Herons.
More than observing birds, the visitors can find some other kind of various mangrove species; mudskippers, fiddler crabs and lot more. A visit to this place will be a benefit for you if you are looking for more natural wonders.
5) Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, Rajasthan
During my visit, I saw more variety of birds here in close and this location was too special for me. This bird watching location is also known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park. Thousands of birds come here during the winter season. You can opt for Elephant safari, rickshaw safari or jeep rides to see the birds in close.
My option was Elephant safari and it was a nice experience for me. I think this is the most suitable way to sightsee the beauty of this location and enjoy the journey as well. I saw birds like Pelicans, Ducks, Wagtails, Eagles, Warbles and so on. If you get a chance, don’t miss this opportunity.
