I think it only hit me when I reached the bridge. The traffic was unbelievable and I was still feeling nauseas from the one beer I’d drunk after weeks of sobriety. There were buildings blocking my view of the sky, but as I made a turn towards the river – I saw it. Hundreds and hundreds of lanterns floating up into the sky like spiralling stars. “Fucking hell that’s amazing” I said to myself, as I tried to push through the crowd with my camera to take some shots from the bridge. There was so much crowd, there was absolutely no scope of finding my friends. But everyone seemed to be happy. Everyone was helping each other, helping light each others lanterns and send them into the sky. Isn’t that how the world is supposed to be? Just a bunch of people trying to connect with the universe? Half the people I spoke to couldn’t even speak English – I spent fifteen minutes taking pictures with some people from South Korea. And they were some of the nicest people ever. Because the truth is, we are all one. We are all part of the same energy. And things like this, help us to see it with our own eyes. . Swipe right for more lantern festival pictures! Which one do you like the most, leave a comment below. The real lantern is at the end haha 🖖🏼 . Note 1 – some people have asked me about the environmental impact of these lanterns. As such I borrowed someone else’s to take this picture. The lantern itself is made of rice paper which is biodegradable, however I am not 100% sure about the wax which is lit to make it fire up. I am still looking into this. . Note 2 – the majority of Instagram shots of this festival you see are actually from private and ticketed mass release events where thousands of lanterns are releases AT THE SAME TIME. Hence the insane shots and insane reflection game. However you need to book this months in advance and pay 200$ for a ticket. I’m not rich enough yet so I attended the public happenings which were also beautiful.

It’s hard for many people to imagine what life as a “digital nomad” is really like. Being on the road perpetually is very different from taking a trip somewhere. . . Here in Thailand for instance, we’ve been living in the same spot for a month now. Living just the way we would if we moved here. Think grocery runs, Netflix nights, yoga classes. Some days are hardcore work days; others are for reading, writing, hiking, day trips and whiling away. Some evenings are for exclusive movie screenings, others for running under the pink sunset sky. We go to local farmers’ markets for organic produce and fruits we’ve never tasted before; the fruit cart lady with the sweetest coconut water knows that ours doesn’t need a plastic straw (bamboo straws are a permanent fixture in my bag here). We’ve tried scores of vegan-friendly restaurants, favourited some, yet new ones keep appearing on our radar (follow my food account @nomadicvegan for snippets). . . Under the full moon, we’ve driven our bike on winding mountain roads, the cool wind chilling our cheeks, a sweet earthy smell in the air. Witnessed a sea of clouds 👆🏼 from the highest mountain in Thailand. Tried to ignore them itchy feet time and again, for slowing down must happen to recharge for epic plans next year. Hiked up to some beautifully peaceful Buddhist temples. Found charming little cafes to work from or read at. . . I’m constantly asked why I’m here, what I’m doing here, how can I spend so much time here, isn’t this “trip” over yet? So here’s the simple answer: I’m just living, like everyone else, only I’m living here… for now 😉 . . And you, have you ever tried slow travel / working on the go? What did you love or hate about it? . . PS: Still in denial that the year is about to end. Can I hold on to 2018 just a wee bit longer? 😘 . . #theshootingstar #seaofclouds #amazingthailand #digitalnomad #shotoniphone

This past week I've been hiking the Tour Du Mont Blanc (TMB) with my family in Europe. We’ve been talking about doing the TMB together forever, and it has been pretty surreal to have that dream finally become a reality. Like all adventures, planning for the TMB was half the fun! I was in charge of making sure everyone had the gear they needed to stay comfortable and safe on the trail, and I found tons of inspiration in the @backcountry Summer Gear Guide (link in bio)! – I’m working with Backcountry to offer you 15% off your first order when you use the code JESSD15 (offer expires July 31). Hope this helps you get out on your own outdoor summer adventure. Happy hiking! ☺️✌️ #GOATworthy
